Description

Series Overview: Our Promoting Critical Thinking through Inquiry Based Learning is a four-session series in which we will explore different approaches to inquiry that will go beyond a collection of techniques or activities. Each session will focus on the key features of the inquiry based instructional methodology and on the development of new skills. While you are welcome to participate in individual sessions, you will achieve the greatest returns by completing the full series.

The four sessions include:

  1. Inquiry Based Learning for Science Instruction
  2. Implementing Engineering Practices in your Classroom
  3. Inquiry Based Learning for Mathematics Instruction
  4. Inquiry Based Learning Meets Writing

Session 1: Inquiry Based Learning for Science Instruction

Description: Researchers in science education have said that students do not become scientifically literate by passively listening to the teacher and filling out photocopies from their favorite book. Students must be afforded a range of opportunities to engage in authentic activities. During this session, we will explore approaches to inquiry-based science and methods and strategies for teaching students to think critically in the TASC-science classroom.

Audience: ABE, Pre-HSE and HSE Instructors

Presenter: Lizelena Iglesias
